Glen MCP is an organizational memory service that gives teams access to shared knowledge and context. It helps users find trusted workspace information without digging through scattered sources.

Introduction

Hermes is a 24/7 autonomous agent that lives on your computer or server — it remembers what it learns and evolves as your usage grows.

This guide explains the easiest and most robust way to connect your Glen account to Hermes. You can do this through either Composio Connect CLI or Composio Connect MCP. For personal use we recommend the CLI, but you won't go wrong with MCP either.

What is Composio Connect?

Composio Connect is a consumer offering that lets anyone plug 1,500+ applications directly into their agent harness — including Hermes. It can:

  • Search and load tools from relevant toolkits on-demand, reducing context usage.
  • Chain multiple tools to accomplish complex workflows via a remote workbench, without excessive back-and-forth with the LLM.
  • Manage app authentication end-to-end with zero manual overhead.

Integrating Glen with Hermes

Using Composio Connect CLI

1. Install the Composio CLI

Run the install script directly, or paste https://composio.dev/hermes into your Hermes chat box to have it installed for you.

bash
curl -fsSL https://composio.dev/install | bash
Hermes authenticating with Composio

2. Authenticate

Once the CLI is installed, ask Hermes to authenticate with Composio.

3. Connect to Glen

Ask your agent to connect to Glen, or simply request any Glen-related task. Hermes will prompt you to authenticate and authorize access.

4. Done. You're all set with a new Glen connection.

Using Composio Connect MCP

1. Get your MCP URL and API Key

Go to dashboard.composio.dev and copy your Connect MCP URL and API key.

Copy MCP URL and API key from Composio dashboard

2. Open the Hermes config file

bash
nano ~/.hermes/config.yaml

3. Add the Composio Connect MCP server

bash
mcp_servers:
  composio:
    url: "https://connect.composio.dev/mcp"
    headers:
      x-consumer-api-key: "YOUR_COMPOSIO_API_KEY"
    connect_timeout: 60
    timeout: 180

Save with Ctrl + O, Enter, then exit with Ctrl + X.

4. Restart your Hermes agent

Once restarted, ask your agent to connect to Glen or request any Glen-related task. It will prompt you to authenticate and authorize access.

5. Done!

What is the Glen MCP server, and what's possible with it?

The Glen MCP server is an implementation of the Model Context Protocol that connects your AI agent and assistants like Claude, Cursor, etc directly to your Glen account. It provides structured and secure access to your organization's shared memory, artifacts, reusable skills, and Glen settings, so your agent can search team knowledge, save and retrieve documents, create and use reusable skills, trace code to past conversations, and manage sharing and recording preferences on your behalf.

  • Search organizational memory: Have your agent search Glen for past decisions, context, and team knowledge, then exclude outdated evidence or restore it later.
  • Manage shared artifacts: Let the agent find, retrieve, create, share, or delete Markdown and HTML documents in your organization's artifact library.
  • Create and use team skills: Direct your agent to find reusable skills, fetch their instructions, save new skills, share them with teammates, or delete skills you authored.
  • Trace code and preserve conversations: Instruct your agent to connect specific code lines to the conversations that produced them or import a past coding-agent conversation into shared memory.
  • Manage Glen workspace settings: Have your agent check organizations, invite teammates, change recording and skill suggestion settings, and send feedback or bug reports to Glen.

Way Forward

With Glen connected, Hermes can now act on your behalf whenever it detects a relevant task or you ask it to.

From here, you can extend Hermes further:

  • Connect more apps: Calendar, Slack, Notion, Linear, and hundreds of others are available through the same Composio Connect setup. Each new integration compounds what Hermes can do for you.
  • Build workflows across tools: Once multiple apps are connected, Hermes can chain actions together — turn an email into a calendar invite, a Slack message into a Linear ticket, or a meeting note into a follow-up draft.
  • Let it learn your patterns: The more you use Hermes, the better it gets at anticipating how you'd handle recurring tasks. Give it feedback on drafts and decisions, and it will adapt.

TOOLS

Supported Tools

Every Glen MCP action and event your agent gets out of the box.

Glen artifact create

Save a document (Markdown or HTML+CSS, no JavaScript) to the org's artifact library.

Glen artifact delete

Permanently delete an artifact you authored, by its exact slug.

Glen artifact get

Fetch a saved artifact (document) from the org's artifact library by its exact slug.

Glen artifact search

Find a saved document in the org's artifact library by intent or keywords.

Glen artifact share

Share an artifact you authored: add teammates by email and/or set org:true to make it visible to the whole org (org:false turns whole-org visibility off).

Glen code search

Trace specific lines of code back to the agent conversations that produced them.

Glen dependency search

Search the org's existing dependencies (tools/runtimes a skill needs) before creating a new one, so you reuse a match instead of duplicating.

Glen feedback

Send a bug report (kind:"bug") or product feedback (kind:"feedback") about glen itself to the Glen team.

Glen forget

Exclude one or more verified wrong, stale, or irrelevant evidence items from future Glen recall.

Glen import

Import one turn of a past coding-agent conversation into the org's shared memory.

Glen invite

Invite one or more teammates by email to the active organization so they share its memory.

Glen list orgs

List the organizations the user belongs to; active:true marks the one this connection reads and writes.

Glen restore

Restore one or more previously forgotten Glen evidence references.

Glen search

Search the organization's shared memory for a query.

Glen set recording

Set the user's glen mode, account-wide on every machine and agent: on (recall and record), off (recall nothing, record nothing), incognito (off the record: keep recalling, record nothing to team memory), silent (keep recording, surface nothing).

Glen set suggestions

Turn glen's skill suggestions on or off for the user, account-wide: skillCreation (offers to save your work as a new team skill) and skillUse (offers existing team skills).

Glen skill create

Save a new reusable skill (a markdown prompt) to your Glen skill library.

Glen skill delete

Permanently delete a skill you authored, by its exact slug, for you and everyone it's shared with.

Glen skill search

Find a reusable skill in the org's shared library by intent and/or author.

Glen skill share

Share a skill you authored: add teammates by email and/or set org:true to make it visible to the whole org (org:false turns whole-org visibility off).

Glen skill use

Fetch a skill's instructions by its exact slug.

Glen status

Show the user's current glen settings: mode (on, off, incognito or silent) and whether skill-creation and skill-use suggestions are on.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

With a standalone Glen MCP server, the agents and LLMs can only access a fixed set of Glen tools tied to that server. However, with the Composio Tool Router, agents can dynamically load tools from Glen and many other apps based on the task at hand, all through a single MCP endpoint.

Yes, you can. Hermes fully supports MCP integration. You get structured tool calling, message history handling, and model orchestration while Tool Router takes care of discovering and serving the right Glen tools.

Yes, absolutely. You can configure which Glen scopes and actions are allowed when connecting your account to Composio. You can also bring your own OAuth credentials or API configuration so you keep full control over what the agent can do.

All sensitive data such as tokens, keys, and configuration is fully encrypted at rest and in transit. Composio is SOC 2 Type 2 compliant and follows strict security practices so your Glen data and credentials are handled as safely as possible.
