Connect Pydantic AI to Vestaboard MCP. List all your vestaboard subscriptions, send 'lunch is ready!' to kitchen board, and more using natural language, with authentication handled for you.
Vestaboard is a smart messaging display that brings digital messages to life using a mechanical split-flap board. It lets you share updates, reminders, or inspiration in a visually striking, physical way.
This guide walks you through connecting Vestaboard to Pydantic AI using the Composio tool router. By the end, you'll have a working Vestaboard agent that can send messages to your Vestaboard and list your subscriptions through natural language commands.
This guide will help you understand how to give your Pydantic AI agent real control over a Vestaboard account through Composio's Vestaboard MCP server.
Before we dive in, let's take a quick look at the key ideas and tools involved.
Pydantic AI is a Python framework for building AI agents with strong typing and validation. It leverages Pydantic's data validation capabilities to create robust, type-safe AI applications.
Key features include:
The Vestaboard MCP server is an implementation of the Model Context Protocol that connects your AI agent and assistants like Claude, Cursor, etc directly to your Vestaboard account. It provides structured and secure access to your Vestaboard displays, so your agent can perform actions like listing subscriptions, sending custom messages, and managing display content on your behalf.
Composio's Composio SDK helps agents find the right tools for a task at runtime. You can plug in multiple toolkits (like Gmail, HubSpot, and GitHub), and the agent will identify the relevant app and action to complete multi-step workflows. This can reduce token usage and improve the reliability of tool calls. Read more here: Getting started with Composio SDK
The tool router generates a secure MCP URL that your agents can access to perform actions.
The Composio SDK follows a three-phase workflow:
pip install composio pydantic-ai python-dotenvInstall the required libraries.
What's happening:
composio connects your agent to external SaaS tools like Vestaboardpydantic-ai lets you create structured AI agents with tool supportpython-dotenv loads your environment variables securely from a .env fileCOMPOSIO_API_KEY=your_composio_api_key_here
USER_ID=your_user_id_here
