Connect Pydantic AI to Fixer MCP. Get today's usd to eur exchange rate, show historical rates for gbp last week, and more using natural language, with authentication handled for you.
Fixer is a currency data API offering real-time and historical exchange rates for 170 currencies. Instantly access accurate, up-to-date forex data for your applications and workflows.
This guide walks you through connecting Fixer to Pydantic AI using the Composio tool router. By the end, you'll have a working Fixer agent that can fetch latest exchange rates, look up historical rates, and list supported currencies through natural language commands.
This guide will help you understand how to give your Pydantic AI agent real control over a Fixer account through Composio's Fixer MCP server.
Before we dive in, let's take a quick look at the key ideas and tools involved.
Pydantic AI is a Python framework for building AI agents with strong typing and validation. It leverages Pydantic's data validation capabilities to create robust, type-safe AI applications.
Key features include:
The Fixer MCP server is an implementation of the Model Context Protocol that connects your AI agent and assistants like Claude, Cursor, etc directly to your Fixer account. It provides structured and secure access to real-time and historical foreign exchange data, so your agent can fetch current rates, check past currency values, and look up supported symbols with ease.
Composio's Composio SDK helps agents find the right tools for a task at runtime. You can plug in multiple toolkits (like Gmail, HubSpot, and GitHub), and the agent will identify the relevant app and action to complete multi-step workflows. This can reduce token usage and improve the reliability of tool calls. Read more here: Getting started with Composio SDK
The tool router generates a secure MCP URL that your agents can access to perform actions.
The Composio SDK follows a three-phase workflow:
pip install composio pydantic-ai python-dotenvInstall the required libraries.
What's happening:
composio connects your agent to external SaaS tools like Fixerpydantic-ai lets you create structured AI agents with tool supportpython-dotenv loads your environment variables securely from a .env fileCOMPOSIO_API_KEY=your_composio_api_key_here
USER_ID=your_user_id_here
