## Introduction

### How to connect Oboard MCP with ChatGPT
[ChatGPT](https://chatgpt.com/) can take action across your apps and files, stay with a project for hours, and turn a goal into finished materials like sheets, slides, and docs, not just answers.
In this guide, I will explain the easiest and most secure way to connect your Oboard account to ChatGPT via Composio Connect, so it can list objectives, track key results, update goal progress, manage teams, and organize workspaces through natural language commands without ever putting your account credentials at risk.

## Also integrate Oboard with

- [Claude Cowork](https://composio.dev/toolkits/oboard/framework/claude-cowork)
- [Hermes](https://composio.dev/toolkits/oboard/framework/hermes-agent)
- [Atomic Agent](https://composio.dev/toolkits/oboard/framework/atomic-agent)

## TL;DR

### Why use Composio over default connectors?
- Apps with read and write access. Default connectors mostly can read your data. Composio's Oboard integration lets ChatGPT take actions like creating drafts, sending updates, labeling records, and more.
- 1,500+ SaaS toolkits out of the box. Composio gives you instant access to a vast catalog of pre-built connectors, from Gmail and Slack to Notion, Linear, and Salesforce.
- One MCP server for every app. Connect any of your applications on demand through a single endpoint, rather than juggling a separate server for each app.
- Smart, context-aware tool loading. Unlike traditional MCP servers that dump every available tool into the LLM context window, Composio searches for and loads only the tools relevant to the task at hand.
- Cross-app automation. Chain actions across multiple apps in a single run - fetch a thread, summarize it in Notion, and post highlights to Slack without leaving the conversation.

## Connect Oboard to ChatGPT

### Prerequisites
- A ChatGPT account. We will use the [ChatGPT desktop app](https://openai.com/chatgpt/download/), and the steps are the same on the web.
- Access to the Oboard workspace you want to connect.
- [Composio plugin](https://dashboard.composio.dev/login?utm_source=toolkits&utm_medium=framework_template&utm_campaign=chatgpt&utm_content=composio_connect&next=%2F~%2Forg%2Fconnect%2Fclients%2Fchatgpt).
Note: Composio connects through OAuth. You will be asked to sign in and approve specific permissions. Review the permission screen carefully if you are using a work account.
### Step-by-step: Connect Oboard to ChatGPT
### 1. Install the Composio plugin
Click the button. ChatGPT opens the Composio plugin page. Click Install plugin.
[Install in ChatGPT](https://chatgpt.com/plugins/plugin_asdk_app_6a58503580c08191b78cc5bdaf4eba6e)
You can also find it inside ChatGPT: go to Settings, open Plugins, search the marketplace for Composio, and click Install plugin.
### 2. Authenticate
After you install, ChatGPT asks you to authenticate with Composio. Log in and click Allow access to authorize ChatGPT to use your Composio account.
### 3. Start using Composio
That is it. Composio tools are now available in ChatGPT. Type @Composio followed by your request, for example @Composio find unread Oboard messages and summarize them, and it will run the actions you authorize. On first use it asks you to authorize Oboard.
### Option 2: Add Composio as an MCP server
If you cannot use the plugin marketplace, add Composio as a custom MCP server instead.
### 1. Open the MCP settings
In ChatGPT, go to Settings and open the Plugins section. Inside the Plugins page, click the MCP tab.
### 2. Add the server
Click Add server. In the Name field enter Composio, for Type select Streamable HTTP, and in the URL field paste the Composio MCP server URL:

```bash
https://connect.composio.dev/mcp
```

## What is the Oboard MCP server, and what's possible with it?

The Oboard MCP server is an implementation of the Model Context Protocol that connects your AI agent and assistants like Claude, Cursor, etc directly to your Oboard account. It provides structured and secure access to objectives, key results, progress updates, check-ins, teams, groups, workspaces, and planning data, so your agent can review goals, update progress, manage team access, organize workspaces, and maintain strategic planning information on your behalf.
- Goal and key result management: Have your agent create, retrieve, update, replace, and delete Oboard objectives, key results, and Jira-linked elements.
- Progress and check-in tracking: Let the agent record check-ins, update progress values, review progress history, search check-ins, and add or review comments for goals.
- Workspace and planning oversight: Direct your agent to list accessible workspaces, review planning intervals, find child elements, and inspect labels, confidence levels, and custom fields.
- Team and group administration: Instruct your agent to search users, create or update groups, add or remove members, and update workspace roles.
- Strategic planning maintenance: Have your agent list, create, and update strategic components, then adjust the rules and ordering used to organize Oboard elements.

## Supported Tools

| Tool slug | Name | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `OBOARD_ADD_USERS_TO_GROUP` | Add Users to Group | Add one or more existing Oboard users to a group. Use only when the connected deployment exposes group membership management; Web app connections reject this operation. |
| `OBOARD_CREATE_CHECKIN` | Create Check-In | Create a check-in that records a progress value, status, or comment for an Oboard element. When checkin_date is supplied, Oboard stores its UTC calendar day and may replace the time with 23:59:59.000Z. |
| `OBOARD_CREATE_ELEMENT` | Create Element | Create an Oboard objective, key result, or Jira-linked element in a workspace and interval. Oboard requires integer manual start-date and due-date states plus grade mode 1 (automatic) or 2 (manual). |
| `OBOARD_CREATE_ELEMENT_VALUE` | Create Element Value | Create a dated numeric value for an Oboard element. value_date is required in YYYY-MM-DD format and cannot be after the current UTC date. Oboard returns only a confirmation string, not the created value ID; use LIST_ELEMENT_VALUES to identify the resulting record. |
| `OBOARD_CREATE_GROUP` | Create Group | Create an Oboard group in selected workspaces or all workspaces. |
| `OBOARD_CREATE_STRATEGIC_COMPONENT` | Create Strategic Component | Create an Oboard strategic component with its ordering, type, workspace placement, and element rules. Oboard documents no delete action for a created strategic component, so creation may be permanent. |
| `OBOARD_DELETE_ELEMENT` | Delete Element | Delete one Oboard element and optionally its nested objectives. |
| `OBOARD_DELETE_ELEMENT_VALUE` | Delete Element Value | Delete one dated value record from an Oboard element. |
| `OBOARD_DELETE_GROUP` | Delete Group | Delete one Oboard group, optionally deleting its users too. |
| `OBOARD_GET_ELEMENT` | Get Element | Retrieve one current Oboard element by its numeric ID. |
| `OBOARD_LIST_CHILD_ELEMENTS` | List Child Elements | List and filter current child elements below a parent, including manual-weight metadata, one page at a time. |
| `OBOARD_LIST_CONFIDENCE_LEVELS` | List Confidence Levels | List Oboard confidence-level IDs and names, optionally restricted to accessible workspaces. |
| `OBOARD_LIST_CUSTOM_FIELDS` | List Custom Fields | List Oboard custom-field definitions across accessible workspaces. |
| `OBOARD_LIST_ELEMENT_COMMENTS` | List Element Comments | Retrieve comments for one or more Oboard elements. Date bounds are inclusive and are enforced locally because Oboard does not consistently apply them. |
| `OBOARD_LIST_ELEMENT_PROGRESS_HISTORY` | List Element Progress History | Retrieve dated progress values for multiple Oboard elements, one page at a time. |
| `OBOARD_LIST_ELEMENTS` | List Elements | List and filter current Oboard objectives, key results, and Jira-linked elements, one page at a time. |
| `OBOARD_LIST_ELEMENT_VALUES` | List Element Values | List all dated values recorded for one Oboard element. |
| `OBOARD_LIST_GROUPS` | List Groups | List current Oboard groups and their workspace, permission, synchronization, and user-count metadata. |
| `OBOARD_LIST_INTERVALS` | List Intervals | List planning intervals, dates, and open or backlog state for one workspace. |
| `OBOARD_LIST_LABELS` | List Labels | List current Oboard labels, optionally filtered by name. |
| `OBOARD_LIST_STRATEGIC_COMPONENTS` | List Strategic Components | List current Oboard strategic components, optionally filtered by component or workspace IDs. |
| `OBOARD_LIST_USERS` | List Users | Search current Oboard users across workspaces, roles, and groups, one page at a time. |
| `OBOARD_LIST_WORKSPACES` | List Workspaces | List workspaces accessible to the connected Oboard API token. |
| `OBOARD_REMOVE_USERS_FROM_GROUP` | Remove Users from Group | Remove one or more existing Oboard users from a group. Use only when the connected deployment exposes group membership management; Web app connections reject this operation. |
| `OBOARD_REPLACE_ELEMENT` | Replace Element | Update an existing Oboard element through its broad PUT operation, which can set editable metadata, hierarchy, progress, assignments, integer manual-date states, and privacy in one call. The request sends the element ID and only optional fields you provide; explicit null values are sent, while omitted fields are not sent, and Oboard does not document whether omission preserves or resets them. |
| `OBOARD_REPLACE_GROUP` | Replace Group | Replace the settings, workspace links, platform links, and membership list of an existing Oboard group. Use only when the connected deployment exposes group management; Web app connections reject this operation. |
| `OBOARD_SEARCH_CHECKINS` | Search Check-Ins | Search check-ins for selected elements and optionally include element or comment details, one page at a time. |
| `OBOARD_UPDATE_CHECKIN` | Update Check-In | Update an existing Oboard check-in's progress value, status, or comment. At least one change is required. When checkin_date is supplied, Oboard stores its UTC calendar day and may replace the time with 23:59:59.000Z. When it is omitted or null, Oboard chooses the resulting date. |
| `OBOARD_UPDATE_ELEMENT_PROPERTIES` | Update Element Properties | Update one or more named properties on an existing Oboard element without replacing the complete element. |
| `OBOARD_UPDATE_ELEMENT_VALUE` | Update Element Value | Update the numeric value of one Oboard element-value record. Oboard documents new_value as optional and nullable; this action requires it so the call can perform an agent-observable update. The provider returns only a confirmation string; value_id remains the record identifier. |
| `OBOARD_UPDATE_STRATEGIC_COMPONENT` | Update Strategic Component | Update an existing Oboard strategic component's identity, ordering, and element rules. This changes a shared hierarchy component that can affect elements across its workspaces. |
| `OBOARD_UPDATE_USER_ROLES` | Update User Roles | Bulk update users' workspace roles. This changes user authorization; use only with the intended account, workspace, and role IDs. |

## Frequently Asked Questions

### What are the differences in Tool Router MCP and Oboard MCP?

With a standalone Oboard MCP server, the agents and LLMs can only access a fixed set of Oboard tools tied to that server. However, with the Composio Tool Router, agents can dynamically load tools from Oboard and many other apps based on the task at hand, all through a single MCP endpoint.

### Can I use Tool Router MCP with ChatGPT?

Yes, you can. ChatGPT fully supports MCP integration. You get structured tool calling, message history handling, and model orchestration while Tool Router takes care of discovering and serving the right Oboard tools.

### Can I manage the permissions and scopes for Oboard while using Tool Router?

Yes, absolutely. You can configure which Oboard scopes and actions are allowed when connecting your account to Composio. You can also bring your own OAuth credentials or API configuration so you keep full control over what the agent can do.

### How safe is my data with Composio Tool Router?

All sensitive data such as tokens, keys, and configuration is fully encrypted at rest and in transit. Composio is SOC 2 Type 2 compliant and follows strict security practices so your Oboard data and credentials are handled as safely as possible.
