# Connected account

A connected account is a stored set of provider credentials linked to a user and toolkit, created when the user authenticates with that service.

The credentials can be OAuth tokens or an API key. Composio uses the selected connected account to authenticate tool execution and refreshes OAuth tokens when the provider supports refresh.

One user can connect more than one account for the same toolkit, such as two GitHub accounts. Your application must select the intended connection and keep user identities separate. An auth config describes how to connect; a connected account records a particular connection.
